MATT EVANS

Matt Evans is a Chartered Landscape Architect, garden designer, photographer and passionate plantsman based in Bath, who specialises in creating unique outdoor spaces for private and commercial clients across the UK.

At the heart of Matt’s skill set is his sensitivity to the atmosphere of a place, and his ability to draw on learned principles of photography such as depth and balance which he uses to create beautiful outdoor spaces which are artful in their composition.

Matt has a deep-rooted connection with the natural world which originates in some of his earliest memories picking wild strawberries and exploring the wilds of his childhood garden. It’s these earliest memories which have given light to Matt’s plant led approach to design which seeks to capture and create landscapes which have a unique atmosphere and draw on years of experience growing rare and unusual plants, many of which are uncommon in cultivation. In particular Matt chooses to use plants which are both beautiful, and have a history of medicinal or edible use which has been all but forgotten.

Matt brings a wealth of experience in working on complex landscape designs of all scales from urban townhouses, countryside estates and public realm regeneration, having worked with renowned garden designer Arne Maynard, where he worked on designs for some of the world’s finest gardens and lead projects across the UK, Europe and the Americas.

At home Matt experiments with plants on his two allotment plots which he has turned into a woodland garden and gravel garden and regularly attends training days at Great Dixter Garden and Nursery.

Matt believes in working closely with his clients to create gardens which are personal to them and uses his connections with specialist nurseries, craftspeople and suppliers to ensure the garden is finished to the highest quality.
